Most of the people I work with didn't get where they are through bad genetics. They got there through accumulated load — years of sleep debt, NSAIDs, alcohol on weekends, processed food, stress without recovery. The body is remarkably resilient and remarkably good at adapting. It's also remarkably good at storing the cost of those adaptations until the bill comes due.

The bill shows up in different ways. As fatigue that doesn't respond to more sleep. As joint pain that no longer matches the training load. As brain fog. As digestive distress. As a slow drift toward diagnoses that didn't exist five years ago. By the time most people arrive at repair work, they've already tried to fix the foundation — and discovered that the foundation isn't the problem. The accumulated load is.

Nearly 800,000 gallbladder removals happen in the US every year. Many show up with no obvious cause on imaging — no large stones, no clear blockage. The conclusion in mainstream medicine is usually "idiopathic" or "dysfunctional gallbladder." Functional medicine asks another question: what was actually causing the symptoms?

The Underrated Role of Grounding

The mechanism is straightforward: the surface of the earth carries a slight negative charge. The Castor Oil Question

Castor oil is the most simultaneously underrated and overhyped substance in functional medicine. The honest read: it works for what it actually works for, and it's wrong for what it doesn't. Methylene Blue and the Mitochondria Problem

When the load is long-term — years of accumulated damage to the cellular systems — the cleanup work in the gut, liver, and lymph is necessary but not always sufficient. Cellular energy production itself may need direct support.

Methylene blue is a 150-year-old molecule that acts as an electron carrier, routing around damaged segments of the mitochondrial electron transport chain.
